Being well informed about what is happening in the world, especially these days, it can negatively affect one's mental health.

From the pandemic to the recent escalation of violence in Gaza and Israel, harsh images of other people can cause very negative feelings in those who see them.

As a result, work and other responsibilities may seem insignificant compared to larger existential threats.

Here are three tips from Katharine Manning, an expert with more than 25 years of experience dealing with workplace distress:

1. Take time to deal with your feelings

Instead of suppressing negative emotions, Manning suggests giving yourself permission to feel them. At the same time, it would be good to prioritize the hobbies he likes, so that he can get over what he feels more quickly.

2. Recognize what you are grateful for

To get back to work, Manning advises thinking about at least three things you're proud of or grateful for at the end of each day. “Burnout can be caused by a feeling of ineffectiveness, like you're not really doing anything,” she says. “So changing your perspective a bit by counting your wins instead of looking around at all the things that are going wrong in the world can help.” These victories do not have to be great achievements. Remembering to ask a friend if they are okay or go for a nice walk at lunchtime could have a positive impact.

3. Reconnect with your purpose

In times of lackluster work it is important to think about why you chose to work in the industry or position you are in. This makes him redefine the way he sees things and find more desire to work.

4. Check if your colleagues are okay more than once

Coworkers often ask each other if they are okay in times of global upheaval. This is very important. However, according to Manning, it shouldn't be done just once, since the time that everyone analyzes their emotions is different.
