In Arodes of Paphos is the only church in the world dedicated to St. Kalandionas. , who gathered in the church located in the center of the community.

Apart from the fact that it is the only church in the world dedicated to this particular saint, the two shrines in the churchyard that are associated with the history of Agios Agapitikos and Agios Mistikos are famous.

Specifically, the interior of the church consists of a wood-carved iconostasis with icons of Christ, the Virgin and saints of Orthodoxy, while it also has hagiographies.

Southeast of the village is located and the sanctuary of St. Calandion.

South of the church is the shrine where it is believed that Saint Agapitikos was buried. To the north of the temple is another shrine in which St. Barlaam was probably buried, who was later renamed Agios Misitikos by the locals.

In his quotations, Leontios Macheiras notes that Saint Kalandionas, Saint Agapios and Saint Varlam were among the three hundred Alamanni Saints of Cyprus, who during the Arab invasions were expelled from the great centers of monasticism, which were Palestine and Palestine./p>

The three saints, according to Macheiras, practiced in Pano Arodes, leaving their traces in the village.

Saint Kalandionas was Archbishop of Antioch. Refusing to sign the “union” of Emperor Zeno, which provided for the compromise of the Orthodox with the Monophysites, he was expelled by the emperor somewhere in Egypt.

It is believed that at the end of the 5th century came to Cyprus persecuted by the Saracens and took refuge in the community of Arodes, where he practiced asceticism and spent the rest of his life. His memory is celebrated on April 26 and he is the patron saint of Arodes.

Pano Arodes is a small village 23 km northeast of the city of Paphos and is located in an impressive position in Laona plateau. The village is dotted with antiquities and its history dates back to prehistoric times.
