The positions of the two leaders in Cyprus, which remain unchanged as presented to the Secretary-General of the United Nations during the two meetings he had with them last April in Geneva and in September in New York, do not seem to come close in the slightest. President Anastasiadis reiterated yesterday his firm position for a solution to the Cyprus problem as it stems from United Nations resolutions. On the opposite bank, Ersin Tatar insisted on the existence of two states on the island.
With no sign of convergence on the two sides' positions on the island, the focus will be on the United Nations in the new year for the forthcoming Security Council debate. The big question mark is the approach of the Security Council in general, but also of the permanent members in particular, regarding the next steps that will be followed in the Cyprus issue.

President Anastasiadis was at the “Aronas” outpost yesterday to wish the soldiers who are on the front line. After thanking the soldiers for the service they offer to their homeland, President Anastasiadis referred to the Cyprus issue, sending specific messages in the direction of the international factor:
“What I want to convey to you is our will and determination through diplomacy, through the strengthening of our relations with other countries, always invoking international law, United Nations resolutions and Security Council decisions such as also of the European acquis, of the Summit Agreements, to work creatively in order to prevent what unfortunately over time Turkey is being engineered or dreamed in order to perpetuate its presence here but also to control the entire territory of the country. “They will not succeed and they will not succeed because the revisionist positions and the expansionist aspirations of the Turkish government are not supported.”
Continuing, the PD addressed the Turkish Cypriots with the appeal “to realize that beyond the 36% of the territory that is under occupation, under occupation and suffering are, in addition to the Greek Cypriots who have been violently expelled from their ancestral homes, themselves.” According to the PD, “the usurpation of property, the usurpation of part of a country is not always to the benefit of the usurper. In the occupied territories, Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriots “have sovereign rights stemming from international agreements, that if there is an agreement on the island, it could only be at the base of two separate states living side by side and that there has been no result from the negotiations that took place to find a solution to the federation, because the game that is being played is the administration of the minority by the majority and this is an “adventure” that “will lead the Turkish Cypriot people to extinction”.
According to the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Güneş (source GTP), Ersin Tatar also claimed that “we can never put our people in such danger. With the support of the Turkish Republic, we are spreading our policy around the world. We are fortunate to have this achieved. Our state is at least as legal as that of the Greek Cypriots. […] We are a sovereign state and our relations with Turkey will continue forever […] “.
In addition, Birak (source at GTP) reported that Ersin Tatar went to Ankara to attend and speak at a ceremony organized by Gazi University's Center for Practice and Research in the World, on the occasion of “21st National Week -25 December “. GREEN LINE ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE
