More than 60 million euros will be given to Cypriot farmers, through hectare subsidies, until next December, according to an announcement by the Press and Information Office.

As mentioned, in the context of the financial aid to farmers for the five years 2023-2027, which exceeds 300 million euros, the application period started today, March 20 and lasts until April 10 (until May 5, 2023 with a penalty). they concern the hectare subsidies and are included in the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

It is noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Cyprus Organization for Agricultural Payments proceeded to announce Direct Aid and Rural Development Interventions (hectare subsidies), with the aim of paying the aid of 60 million euros to farmers by next December.

It should be noted that the submission of the Single Application for Hectare Subsidies is done electronically through the Electronic Application Submission System (EAS System), located on the website www.eas.capo.gov.cy, using the personal passwords.

The Direct Support Interventions, the announcement adds, include very important actions, which in recent years have given breathing space to the agricultural sectors, such as, for example, the “Basic income support for sustainability” in the form of decoupled support, which is the main support tool of of agricultural income, with the level of support being common throughout the territory of the Republic of Cyprus in which effective control is exercised by the state. The total budget, as stated, for the five-year period is 155.2 million euros and the beneficiaries are the owners of agricultural land larger than 3 decares. The amount of the aid amounts to approximately 23.27 euros per decari.

Among other important Interventions there is the “coupled aid for citrus fruits located in the Dead Zone” with a five-year budget of 1.1 million euros. Beneficiaries are the owners of citrus fruits in areas affected by the dead zone with a minimum area of ​​3 acres. The amount of the aid amounts to 56.4 euros per decari.

Also, the “Additional aid for young people” is mentioned, which concerns additional support for sustainability, in the form of decoupled aid, which aims at the additional support of agricultural income of young farmers. The amount of the aid amounts to 8.5 euros per decario.

Also added is “Supplementary income redistributive support” which aims to adequately support small and medium-sized agricultural holdings. Beneficiaries are owners of agricultural holdings larger than 3 decares. The amount of the aid amounts to 2.87 euros per decare.

In addition, the “Targeted agro-environmental actions in potatoes and citrus fruits” are mentioned, for which the beneficiaries are owners of agricultural holdings, with an area of ​​more than 3 decares. The aid amount for potatoes is 35 euros per dozen and for citrus fruits 51 euros per dozen.

Besides, it is added that the Ecological Programs now play their own role in the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027, with the five-year budget ranging around 55 million euros.

As explained in the ecological Interventions, actions are also included related to the banana crops and specifically the removal of the trees of the previous year's plantation, the removal of old leaves by pruning and the proper maintenance of the farmer's record.

The action of shredding is also included. pruning and application of plant residues, while for the first time an Intervention related to the utilization of compost has been included with a five-year budget of approximately 6.6 million euros.

In addition, it is noted that the Ecological Programs also include the Action related to “Application of friendly agricultural practices in carob cultivation”, as well as actions to reduce the burden of soils and waters from plant protection chemicals.
