    New announcement from the monks

A new announcement was issued by the lawyers of the monks of Abvakum Monastery, stating that they ask Metropolitan Isaias to clarify if he recognizes or if he does not recognize the four condemning decisions he issued on March 5, 2024 against four members of the Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Saint Abbakum.

Adding that the answer is crucial and decisive, while they appeal to the Metropolitan to end the impasse citing an insult to the dignity of the monks.

    Such announcement:

“Today we submitted a request to the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Tamasos and Orinis, Mr. Isaias, to clarify to us whether he recognizes or does not recognize the four condemning decisions he issued on March 5, 2024 against four members of the Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of St. Abvakum, namely of the Pantheological Archimandrite Nektarios Georgios, Abbot of the Holy Monastery, the Pantheological Archimandrite Porphyrios Ttoulos, the Reverend Hieromonk Abvakum Christofis and the Reverend Monk Timotheus Florentzos.

The answer to the above request is crucial and decisive. , since

a)the recognition of the decisions leads to the recognition of res judicata and the self-evident final cessation of any further proceedings against our principals.

    b) their non-recognition implies their non-existence and self-evident nullity and the non-existence of the penalties imposed on our principals (three-month holiday, non-payment of salaries, suspension from their duties and forced removal from their Monastery), which they have been enduring without protest since March 5, keeping pending all grounds of invalidity of the process to date.

We would like, therefore, in view of the beginning of Holy Week and our Lord's journey towards the voluntary Passion, to address an appeal on behalf of our clients/clients to the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Tamasos and Orini, Mr. Isaiah, to make a paternal and sacrificial decision as soon as possible to remove the impasse caused by his initiation of the specific – but incorrect – procedure. In fact, a procedure which may have been judged by him to be the most ideal, based on his personal assessments or the advice of third parties, is nevertheless based on illegal acts and on multiple and extensive violations of the Charter of the Church of Cyprus, whose faithful implementation is “Constitutional obligation”, arising from article 110 paragraph 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus.

We hope that the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Tamasos and Orini, guided by the spirit of these Holy Days, will receive the correct decision.

We are at the disposal of the Church of Cyprus”
