OELMEK's announcement
OELMEK says that it is the reports that spoke of violence by a teacher against a student in the province of Larnaca. In her statement she states that these were based solely on a parent/guardian's complaint against the teacher and the school unit, without any investigation into the matter.
OELMEK notes that “the Mass Media must be more careful when reproducing complaints against educational/school units” and calls on them to investigate the issue before making it public. It also calls on the Cyprus Editors' Union to intervene in order to ensure that the basic rules of journalistic ethics are observed. the school unit was exemplary and based on the provisions of the operating regulations of Secondary Education Schools”. in the last few days, it will completely refute what is published against the teacher and the school unit”, adds the Organization.
Finally, it notes that “it is not going to remain indifferent to every non-existent and sensational report, complaint or publication that it is directed against teachers, management and the Public School in general, wherever it comes from, expecting the Ministry of the Interior to officially refute them and restore the truth”.
