On December 2, the bills concerning the implementation of the paid parental leave, declared today EDEK Member of Parliament Andreas Apostolou.
In his statements after the session of the Labor Committee, Mr. Apostolou said that the debate on the bills was completed and "the n/s in the Plenary on December 2nd, last session, for a vote».
«We are happy in principle because through the dialogue between the executive and legislative powers, the golden ratio has been found and many of the issues that we have proposed as a Committee have be incorporated into the final bills», he said.
Specifically, Mr. Apostolou stated that "increased parental leave for parents of children with disabilities has been incorporated, a binding letter has been sent before the Committee by the Minister of Labor that in a’ half of 2023, the arrangements that will concern the self-employed as well as various other arrangements will be discussed.
Of course, he added, «in the dialogue there were also issues that we had submitted such as for example the need to institutionalize paid leave for purposes of care which have not been adopted at this stage”.
The MP of EDEK also said that "it is through this process and this dialogue that we find common recommendations".
< p> He expressed the belief that "the specific proposals will become the law of the state before the Christmas holidays and immediately parents will be able to enjoy these rights".
We have, he said, "a lot of things to do as a state to support young parents in order to balance family and professional life which is also the objective of the EU, but also to effectively help young families”.
After the Presidential, he finally said , the legislative and executive powers should enter into a real dialogue to find other ways on other issues to support young people starting their lives and having a family.
