Responsibilities also for parents for juvenile delinquency, says the Minister of Justice – A bill on the lambratzies is being promoted, he said, expressing the hope that it will soon be voted by parliament
The episodes by young people on Holy Saturday, in Ypsona and Kiti, highlight serious issue of juvenile delinquency, emphasized the Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsiotis.
Speaking on state television Mr. Hartsiotis pointed out that the Police will not hesitate to assign responsibilities to parents as well, if it is proven that their minor children are not properly supervised.
With reference to the burning issue of lambrazis, he said that a bill is being promoted which has already been put into consultation, expressing the hope that it will soon be voted by the parliament.
< p>Note that – among others – provides that those who wish to light lampreys, should secure a special permit from the competent authority, noting that the use of specific materials will be allowed.
“There will be”, he said, “ ?the required safeguards to preserve the custom”, alongside the protection of the public.
Asked about the use of hoods by offenders, Mr. Hartsiotis said that the issue is hindrance to the investigation of crimes and how it will be regulated by a special bill which is under consultation. The use of hoods in large gatherings will be prohibited and offenders will be punished with two years in prison and a fine of four thousand euros.
