The governance of Nikos Christodoulidis records a negative sign for the first yearwith his popularity shrinking very quickly. The unprecedented figures create a cocktail of negativity for the presidency of Nikos Christodoulidis, at a time when society sees the country moving in the wrong direction. Within a period of 12 months the popularity of the President of the Republic turned upside down and from a positive turned into a negative with his strong trump card, his popularity, to has dissipated.
The large poll conducted by Pulse Market Research on behalf of Phileleftheros, in the period 20-26 of February, showed another important element: that society does not only have a critical attitude towards the first year of government, but at the same time it is also critical of how the opposition to Nikos Christodoulidis is being conducted.
The an overwhelming majority of citizens evaluate President Christodoulidis negatively, with only one in four Cypriots having a positive image today. Both in the general management of the issues facing the country and more specifically, in the two major issues of the economy and the Cypriot issue, the assessment is roughly at the same levels.
According to Pulse Market Research, only 26% of public opinion appears to be generally satisfied with President Christodoulidis, as opposed to 69% who appear to be dissatisfied. Even those who voted for Nikos Christodoulidis, a year later, are not satisfied with the governance of the country. As for political spaces, the voters of the only party that today stand positively against Nikos Christodoulidis is DIKO. It should be noted that there is a differentiation, for the better, between those who voted for DIKO in 2021 and those who intend to vote for it in the upcoming European elections. Those who today declare that they are voting for the Democratic Party are satisfied with President Christodoulidis, at a rate of 52%, while 46% are not satisfied, while those who voted for DIKO in 2021 are satisfied with 34% and 63%

The trend among AKEL voters is extremely negative, nine out of ten voters of the Cypriot Left party state that they are not satisfied with President Christodoulidis. Both those who voted in 2021 and those who intend to vote for AKEL in 2024 declared they were not satisfied with the governance at a rate of 87%-89% and only one in ten appeared satisfied.
In the area of DISY, where a significant percentage had voted for Nikos Christodoulidis a year ago,today only a third of the party gives a positive sign and declares itself generally satisfied. Two-thirds of alarmist voters (whether they voted in 2021 or will vote in the upcoming European elections) say they are not satisfied with the Christodoulidis administration.
Only one in four judges positively the handling of Cyprus and the Economy
The trust shown by the citizens in the person of Nikos Christodoulidis is the lowest recorded by the President of the Republic in the last decade. Even in the most difficult phases of his presidency, Nikos Anastasiadis appeared to gather relatively better numbers than Nikos Christodoulidis. As can be seen from the long-term measurements of Pulse Market Research, Nikos Anastasiadis started 2013 with a 35% positive sign and 60% negative and ended up at the end of the first five years with a 41%-57%. In the second half of his five-year term, N. Anastasiadis saw satisfaction rates drop to 30% during the period of revelations about the scandal of the golden passports.
The sign is negative for how the President handles economic matters. Just one 25% appear satisfied while 68% state that they are not satisfied. At the party level, there does not seem to be any difference between the voters of 2021 and 2024. The AKEL voters state that they are not satisfied with the way President Christodoulidis handles the finances at a rate of 86%. In DISY, 63% of voters appear dissatisfied and 35% satisfied. 42% give a positive sign to DIKO and 52% give a negative sign.Also, three out of four of those who say they will vote for ELAM are not satisfied.
Most of those who voted for Nikos Christodoulidis in 2023 also state that they are not satisfied with the handling of finances, at a rate of 54% while 42% appear satisfied.< /strong>Regarding the people who voted in 2023 A. Mavroyianni and Av. Neophytos, in the first case 85% say they are not satisfied and in the second 70%.

As for the voters of Nikos Christodoulidis, they appear divided, 44% are satisfied and 48% say they are not satisfied with the handling of the national issue.
From dominance to questioning
To the question of what they think of Niko Christodoulidis, today, Cypriots appear divided, with those giving a negative vote slightly more, 49% versus 47%, of those who have a positive opinion. The popularity of Nikos Christodoulidis in 2024, just one year after his election to the Presidency of the Republic, can only be compared with correspondingly low percentages that his two predecessors, Dimitris Christofias and Nikos Anastasiadis, had during difficult periods for them, after the Mari the first and after the “golden passports” scandal the second.
Going back a period of nine months, approximately, we will see that the popularity of N. Christodoulidis, at the beginning of his presidency, was at 67%, much higher than it was at the beginning of their term both D. Christofias and and N. Anastasiadis. While through the measurements of Pulse Market Research we see a vertical drop in the popularity of Nikos Christodoulidis over a period of five years. In 2019, 72% were positioned positively and only 11% negatively, and despite the increase in the negative positioning that reached 29% in 2023, it managed to keep the positive sign quite high, which was in the same period at 67%.
Analyzing, further, the popularity of Nikos Christodoulidis, what is recorded is that he remains popular in the ranks of DISY and DIKO (with a slight upward movement). N. Christodoulidis remains popular (69%) among his voters, but he is also doing quite well among the voters of Averof Neophytos (47% have a positive opinion and 51% negative), while in the case of of A. Mavroyiannis' voters, only 23% have a positive opinion and 74% have a negative opinion.
Regarding the demographic analyses, what is noted is that there is more positive opinion among women than among men. In what concerns the age groups, only the 60+ passes the base (52%), while in the 18-39 age group the positive opinion is at 46% and in the 40-59 group it is at 43%.
