2021 may have started badly for the country's airports, as passenger traffic in January recorded a new double-digit decrease of 90.5% compared to 2020, but the outlook remains encouraging for the situation to improve this year, mainly due to the changes. which will enter into force in March in relation to the categorization of the countries from which Cyprus will receive tourists.
Speaking to “F”, the Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, clarified that despite the adoption of additional measures for those arriving in Cyprus since last Saturday and the three-day self-restraint to which visitors are now obliged, the plans for implementation from March 1 of the amended Action Plan of the phased resumption of flights and the reopening of airports are not overturned.
The amended plan, he reminded, ensures that for 56 countries there will be no quarantine in any of the three categories that will fall, further noting that the categories from March 1 change from A, B and C to green, orange and red. However, the minister admitted that the situation due to epidemiological data in Cyprus and abroad remains fluid, however, as he reiterated, the planning for the changes that will take place on March 1 does not change at the moment.
The minister also mentioned that the Plan has a response to the airlines, which, as he said, plan to increase routes or start new ones. Giannis Karousos also revealed that a new company is expected to be active in flights to Greece from Cyprus in the near future.
