MPs, ministers and other high-ranking officials have not filed tax returns for a number of years, specifically between 2009-2019. The Minister of Finance, Konstantinos Petridis, in his letter to the Parliament, dated 8/9/2021, confirmed the above, however, avoiding to go into details or even mentioning names. Mr. Petridis revealed that a register was created in the Tax Department, which includes about 100 high-ranking officials, in order to be regularly checked for tax evasion and tax avoidance. It should be noted that a nominal list of officials who did not file tax returns from 2008 to 2015 has been submitted to the Parliament since 2019. It was prepared by the Audit Service and submitted to the Parliament after the Attorney General first gave the green light. This infamous list of names remains registered in the drawers of Parliament.

In particular, Irini Charalambidou sent on 24/6/2021 a letter to the Minister of Finance, pointing out the following: statements by officials, including persons holding senior institutional positions. Please inform us about the following: 1. Whether the Tax Department conducts any audit on the basis of the very serious complaints of the former minister. 2. If the Department of Taxation conducts any investigations in relation to the tax data of the former Speaker of Parliament Dimitris Syllouris “.
