The funeral of the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostom II took place today, in the Cathedral of the Apostle Barnabas in the Archdiocese, Nicosia, November 12, 2022. The funeral procession is presided over by the Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, with the members of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus. On the day of his enthronement in 2016, Archbishop Chrysostomos B, was buried – 16 years later – in the crypt, which he himself chose while alive, together with the Holy Companion, his three brothers, Dimitris, Antonis and Maroula and other relatives and priests, to accompany him for the last farewell.

The bell of the Cathedral of the Apostle Barnabas rang mournfully when soldiers carried the coffin towards the exit from the temple. The philharmonic orchestra of the Police played the national anthem and soldiers of the National Guard lined up outside the Church, when the coffin with the Archbishop left the church. The procession followed a semi-perimeter route and from the underground parking area entered the special area where the burial took place.
At the time of the burial, an army salute was fired honorary three shots in the air outside the main entrance of the Archdiocese. The Speaker of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, was also present at the burial.
The miter and the cross (replicas) of the Archbishop were placed together with the coffin and the shroud, in the special tomb, which will cover a large slab of marble.
