The expansion of the Cyprus-Greece cooperation in the field of digital transformation was at the center of the visit of the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Kyriakos Kokkinos, to Athens, on September 8, 2021. During the visit, the Deputy Minister and the Deputy Director General , Dr. Stelios Heimonas, were received by the Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Deputy Minister of Simplification of Procedures, George Georgantas and the Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and the Land Registry. of the two Ministries.

The main topic of discussion was the acceleration of the digital transition, as a key pillar of recovery, growth and prosperity. Among other things, views were exchanged, best practices were discussed and it was agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of digital governance, in particular regarding the development and provision of quality digital services and smart applications, the transition to government cloud computing, promotion digital skills, as well as the adoption of new models and methodologies to improve efficiency, productivity and the speed and flexibility with which projects of a relevant nature are designed and implemented. Emphasis was also placed on cooperation in the field of telecommunications and space, as a tool for strengthening the competitiveness of the two countries and establishing them as regional service hubs in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The two Ministers reaffirmed their strong will for the continuous expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in their areas of responsibility, while it was agreed to promote the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the exchange of know-how and expertise at a technocratic level. scheduled in the coming months.

According to the Deputy Minister, Mr. Kokkinos, “The two countries have a common vision and common goals for modernization, improving competitiveness and achieving social welfare conditions through the use of information and communication technologies! Through an expanded cooperation with Greece, both at transnational and European level, our plans for successful implementation of the digital strategy of the State are launched with steady and decisive steps, which, in turn, is the cornerstone of a modern and functional state and a dynamic and competitive economy “.

Finally, the Cypriot delegation visited the centers of EDYTE-GRNET and the Information Society, bodies supervised by the Ministry of Digital Governance, which play a key role in the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) projects in the public sector.
