Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Mr. Gabi Ashkenazi, on the sidelines of the working visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, to Israel.

Prior to the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli Minister in his statements to the media said, among other things, welcoming Mr. Christodoulidis that this was his fourth meeting with the Cypriot Foreign Minister, something that reflects the relations between them. .

He added that last October, Cyprus and Israel celebrated 60 years of excellent relations both bilaterally and regionally, and noted that Israel greatly appreciates the decision of the Cypriot Government and the President of the Republic to resume flights for the benefit of the two countries' tourism. .

He added that a protocol is being prepared for this purpose, as well as a protocol for the recognition of the Israeli vaccine.

He pointed out that “Cyprus is a very popular destination for Israelis. “Last year, 300,000 people from Israel visited your beautiful island,” he said.

He also said that he and his Cypriot counterpart will discuss bilateral and regional issues, as well as issues related to energy, security, stability and more.

For his part, Mr. Christodoulidis said that this is the second time he visits Israel during the pandemic, noting that this is a clear indication of the importance that the Cypriot Government attaches to the geostrategic bilateral relationship with Israel.

He added that they would discuss bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen them, noting that there have been recent positive developments in the region, such as the Abraham Accords, the Cairo Energy Forum and others.

“We will exchange ideas on how we are building on these positive developments in order to transform our neighborhood, the wider Middle East, into an area of peace, security and stability,” Christodoulidis said.
