The goal is to upgrade the districts of Limassol

The Mayor of Limassol also made a relevant post in MKD, noting the following:

“Today is an important day for Agia Fyla. In a modest ceremony we signed with AN Christou Properties & Construction Limited the contract for the construction works of the renovation of the historic Center of Agia Fyla. After many years of waiting, the project begins. The project that will change the look of this historic district of Limassol, which lasted for 20 months and has a total value of € 2,887,258 plus VAT, contains construction projects that will cover the wider area. south and north of the Holy Temple of Panagia Chrysafiliotissa.

By assuming our duties as Limassol Municipal Council, we have set a major political goal: to upgrade the neighborhoods of our city and to improve the daily living conditions of tens of thousands of our citizens. To bring a breath of development, expected for many years, in every district of our city and in this way to put Limassol on a new course of balanced and integrated development.

This goal was not just a proclamation, but it was done, it is being done. Our Municipality, the Municipal Council and its Services, with a vision, with hard work and with stubbornness, against the difficult conditions of the last years due to the pandemic, we proceeded to plan, step by step, project by project, the realization of this goal . During the past 5 years, we have completed all the projects of the previous co-financing period, worth over € 22 million, and started new projects for the districts with a total budget of over € 16 million. Projects such as:

• The Agia Fyla Settlement Venue

• The Eagle Stadium on Sperchiou Street

• The Environmental Neighborhood of Omonia – Zakaki

• The Environmental Neighborhood of Agios Spyridon

• The Regeneration of Agios Georgios Havouzas Park

• The Environmental Neighborhood of Agios Nikolas

• The Rehabilitation of Gauguin Street Park in Zakaki

• Two Skate Parks, in Agios Nikolas and Zakaki

• The creation of a new park in the Apostolos Andreas district next to the AETOU stadium and the upgrade of 4 more existing regional parks.

• And of course the Renovation of the historic center of Agia Fyla, which is perhaps the top project of our effort.

This project aims to give a new look, in the center of Agia Fyla, an area of special importance with the dozens of protected areas, and will create places of interest for the residents of the area and for the visitors. “Through the interventions that have been designed, the aim is to redefine the space, to create a space that will be a pole of attraction for urban functions, and to give identity to the center of the settlement, to make the area a reference point and center of social and other activities.”

I would also like to express on behalf of the Municipal Council my thanks to the Designers of the project, Architectural Office “Socrates Stratis – Maria Chatzisotiriou & Riccardo Urbano”, the Technical Services of the Municipality of Limassol, the competent Ministries of Interior and Transport, Communications and Works, Departments of Urban Planning and Housing as well as the semi-governmental organizations and other public services involved in the project “.
