On Monday, the Consumer Protection Service (YPK) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, as the competent authority, published 49 products for the week that began on April 8 (RAPEX – Report 15) that present a risk to the health and safety of consumers in Cyprus for the operation and management of the European Rapid Information Exchange System for Dangerous Products that are not foodstuffs. The announcement includes all eight products related to the Consumer Protection Service.

It is noted that these products were detected in the markets of various member states of the European Union and then notified to the Safety Gate RAPEX System, while consumers can be informed about the dangerous products on the website of the Ministry of Health.

As explained, the 49 products were allocated for market control purposes as follows: Eight to the Consumer Protection Service, 14 to the Labor Inspection Department, 8 to the Road Transport Department, 7 to the Pharmaceutical Services Department, 5 to the Electromechanical Services Department, 4 to the Environment Department, 2 to the Health Services and 1 in Health Services – Detergents Sector.

It is noted that the 8 products related to the Consumer Protection Service, as well as the corresponding associated risks are thoroughly described in this table.

As described in the table, the first product is an adapter (with Wi-Fi option) brand ENERGEEKS, model EGEW003MC (package) 22/51-08- 02200 (product), with barcode 8436581540482 and made in China. It is noted that there is a risk of electric shock due to the fact that the insulation of the product is insufficient with the risk of the user suffering an electric shock from the accessible live parts.

The second product is a Jojo Maman Bébé brand pacifier support chain, with barcodes 5054298261983 and with country of manufacture China. It is pointed out that there is a risk of suffocation due to the possible ingestion of small objects that are easily detached from the chain.

The third product is a LIVING NATURE dinosaur soft toy, model PELUCHE BRACHIOSAURUS, manufacture code PRODUCT CODE AN420 with barcode 5037832307217 and country of manufacture UK. It is reported that there is a choking hazard from possible ingestion of small objects that are easily detached from the toy.

The fourth product is a toy with magnets of an unknown brand, models LEC210906118A/[F04A13D5-06]/220109124939451024 and made in China. It is noted that there is a choking hazard from the possible ingestion of the small parts (the magnets) that can be easily detached.

The fifth is also a toy with STEM brand magnets and an unknown country of manufacture. Again it is pointed out that there is a risk of choking due to the possible swallowing of the small parts (magnets) which can be easily detached.

The sixth item is a Flying Tiger Copenhagen brand toy sword, model 3050473, all make codes, with barcode 0200030504732 and made in China. Please note that there is a chemical and choking hazard due to the fact that the battery case breaks easily, leaving the button batteries accessible.

The seventh product is a Konges slojd brand digital bathroom thermometer, model KS5319, build code 122022, with barcode 5715404091336 and made in China. It is noted that there is a risk of suffocation.

The last product is soft toys in the form of various colorful animals of an unknown brand and made in China. It is noted that there is a risk of suffocation from possible swallowing of small objects that are easily detached from the toys or from the fibrous filling material of the toys.

It is noted that the products with serial numbers 1 to 7 have been evaluated by the European Commission as serious risk products, while product number 8 has been assessed by the European Commission as a lower risk product.

It is reported that the Consumer Protection Service calls on importers, distributors and sellers who may have such products to immediately stop making them available and notify the Service.

It is noted that the Consumer Protection Service also calls on consumers, in case who own the products in question, to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store from where they were purchased and at the same time inform the seller accordingly.

It is also noted that, according to the Consumer Protection Law of 2021, in case of purchasing an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product is in accordance with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer has the right to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount paid.

Please note that the above rights are valid for a period of two years from initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the sole responsibility towards the consumer always rests with the final seller. his complaint through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
