They raise issues of understaffing, security and increased workload

Issues of understaffing, safety and increased work volume are raised by the distributors of the Limassol provincial post office, who went on a spontaneous one-day work stoppage, on the occasion of a circular for new duties and obligations.
In statements on behalf of the distributors, Antonis Panagi stated that the distributors were planning a two-hour warning strike, however it turned into a one-day strike “because we received threats and that was the icing on the cake, the last straw”.
As he said, the distributors have been informed of a circular that has been sent to their superiors, which puts new duties on them, which they cannot undertake based on the existing working conditions.
“The new tasks are the home delivery of parcels, the volume and size and number of which have not been determined,” he said, adding that there is a question of the safety of transporting parcels with the mopeds currently in use.
In addition, he continued, “the circular states that when it is being indulged in a private space, in the backyard for example, we must also take a photo, if possible, of the client's personal property, in order to have evidence that we delivered the specific object”.
The distributors, Mr. Panagi stressed, do not refuse to take on new tasks “it is enough to have proper information, security conditions and hire new staff”, while he indicated that “a 65-year-old distributor cannot be expected to perform the same as a 25-year-old”.
