Members of the Police proceeded today to arrest a 26-year-old man, in relation to an investigated case of child pornography. The suspect was taken into custody for police questioning, with the Police Headquarters' Cybercrime Sub-Directorate investigating.
The investigation into the case began following information received from Europol, which stated that an account holder in online social media, uploaded files containing child sexual abuse material to the internet.
From the examinations of the Electronic Crime Prosecution Branch, Electronic Crime Sub-Directorate, it was established that the user of the particular account is the 26-year-old suspect. A judicial arrest warrant was obtained against him, under which he was arrested shortly before 4.30 this afternoon.
After the arrest of the suspect, a search was carried out at his residence, where they were located and seized as evidence, pending legal proceedings exams, three computers, one of which is a laptop. A mobile phone was found in his possession, which was also impounded for judicial examination.
