43 Undeclared Workers in Service Platforms Found – Fines €44,400

< p> The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, in the context of the effort to combat undeclared work and the control of compliance with Basic Labor Laws, informs that during the month of February 2023, targeted inspections were carried out on a Cyprus-wide basis in Clinics/Nurses and Service Platforms.

Specifically, a total of 153 checks were carried out on Service Platforms, where 74 employers and 29 self-employed workers were identified. Out of a total of 184 people (178 men and 6 women), seven (7) were Greek Cypriots, three (3) citizens of the European Union, 173 foreigners from third countries and one (1) Turkish Cypriot.

43 undeclared persons were identified. salaried workers, four (4) undeclared self-employed workers and four (4) undeclared employers. 25 Penalties were issued for a total amount of €44,400.

In addition, checks were carried out in 270 Clinics/Hospitals, where 212 employers and 58 self-employed workers were identified. The total number of workers identified was 371 (87 men and 284 women), of which 320 were Greek Cypriots, 38 citizens of European Union member countries and 13 foreigners from third countries.

According to the data collected by the inspectors of the Service, two (2) undeclared salaried workers and two (2) undeclared self-employed workers were identified. In this context, three (3) Fines were issued for a total amount of €5,900.

The purpose of the Service's campaigns is to raise the awareness of all those employed in the economic activities in question, regarding the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant Legislation. In this context, all the necessary actions are taken in cooperation with the professional organizations, guilds and employers active in their sector.

It is noted that in accordance with the provisions of the relevant legislation, in case of detection of an undeclared person in the Social Insurance Fund , an administrative fine of €500 multiplied by seven (7) months is issued, unless it is proved by the employer that the period of violation was shorter. In the event that it is proven that the period of violation was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual months.
