The readiness and commitment of the President of the Republic to further strengthen relations between Cyprus and Uzbekistan, but also to deepen cooperation at a bilateral level, as well as in the context of European Union-Uzbekistan relations, expressed the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Moscow-based Cyprus Giorgallis during his credentials at a special ceremony in the capital Tashkent recently.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Finance, the credentials and recall documents were received on behalf of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich, who returned the warm greetings of the Uzbek President to President Christodoulidis and congratulated the Cypriot Ambassador on his accreditation. He also conveyed wishes for the success of efforts to further strengthen the relations of the two countries at the bilateral and multilateral level.
In a meeting after the official ceremony, Mr. Odilovich referred to the priorities of Uzbekistan's foreign policy and the prospect of developing his country's relations with the Republic of Cyprus.
In the context of meetings he had during his stay in the capital Tashkent, Mr. Giorgallis provided an update on the latest developments in the Cyprus conflict and on the efforts to upgrade the separatist entity, particularly within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States and the Organization of the Islamic Conference, in violation of international legality.
At the same time, he exchanged views on institutionalizing bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and Uzbekistan, with the aim of prioritizing sectors that the two countries wish to promote together, such as education, tourism and political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
