Deputy Minister of Shipping – Ambassador Greece: They look forward to deepening cooperation

The assurance that the Deputy Ministry of Shipping is looking forward to further deepening the cooperation in the field of Shipping, with the aim of more effectively promoting the joint initiatives and actions of the two countries, was expressed by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hatzimanoli to the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus Ioannis Papameletiou , at a formal meeting in Nicosia.

According to an announcement by the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, among other things, the Cyprus-Greece Maritime Passenger Connection was also discussed, where the Deputy Minister emphasized the great interest of the passenger public in the Cyprus-Greece Maritime Passenger Connection as since the beginning of the announcement of the itineraries until today there have been over from 10,000 bookings.

Mrs. Hatzimanoli informed Mr. Papameletiou about the inclusion of routes from the port of Larnaca, which was deemed necessary, as she said, due to the increased demand and for the better service of our fellow citizens, while she thanked him for the very important contribution of Greece and the assistance of all involved government services, as well as the Piraeus Port Authority (PAA), regarding the implementation of the whole project of the Maritime Connection of the two countries after so many years.

During the meeting, according to the announcement, excellent relations were confirmed, both on a bilateral level, with the excellent cooperation between the Deputy Ministry of Shipping and the Maritime Office of the Cyprus Embassy in Piraeus with the competent Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, and on an international level through their common participation and pursuits in international forums and especially in the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Welcoming the Greek Ambassador, Mrs. Hatzimanoli referred to the Cyprus-Greece fraternal relations and expressed her wish that the two countries continue to work together in order to further strengthen their relations.

The Greek Ambassador congratulated the Deputy Minister for assuming her duties and expressed himself the desire to emphasize the strengthening and strengthening of existing and future collaborations.

Referring to the elections for the election of the IMO Council, the Deputy Minister pointed out that for Cyprus, its election to the IMO Council is of national importance and she thanked the Greek Ambassador for the long-term support of Greece for the election of Cyprus to the Council of the IMO, as Cyprus traditionally does, supporting Greece for election to category A'.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister informed the Greek Ambassador about the holding of the Conference “Maritime Cyprus 2023” on October 8-11, 2023 and informed him that he will send a relevant invitation to the new Minister of Shipping that he will take over, with the request that he attend the proceedings of the Conference.
