Electricity prices for households in the European Union increased sharply in the second half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, from 21.3 euros per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) to 23.7 euros per 100 kWh, according to data Published by Eurostat, the EU statistical office. & nbsp; Cyprus is the country with the third largest increase in electricity bills, as prices increased by 36% in the second half of 2021 compared to last year.
The average gas price for households in the EU also increased compared to the same period in 2020, from 7 euros per 100 kWh to 7.8 euros per 100 kWh.
< p>Recent increases in wholesale electricity and gas prices are due to a number of factors, such as energy prices and supply prices, as noted.
In particular, & nbsp; 36% of household electricity bills and 30% of gas bills are due in taxes and charges. However, these rates have not changed significantly from last year.
At Member State level, electricity prices have risen in all but two Member States in the second half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 .
The largest increases were recorded in Estonia (50% increase), Sweden (49% increase) and Cyprus (36% increase). The only countries where prices fell were Slovakia (down 6%) and Hungary (down 0.1%).
Lowest household electricity prices in euros in the second half of 2021 in Hungary (EUR 10 per 100 kWh), Bulgaria (EUR 10.9 per 100 kWh) and Croatia (EUR 13.1 per 100 kWh).
The highest electricity prices were recorded in Denmark (34.5 euros per 100 kWh), Germany (32.3 euros per 100 kWh), Belgium (29.9 euros per 100 kWh) and Ireland (29.7 euros per 100 kWh) kWh).
In terms of gas prices, prices have risen in 20 of the 24 countries for which data are available (there is no natural gas supply to consumers in Cyprus).
The lowest gas prices for households in euros in The second half of 2021 was recorded in Hungary (3.1 euros per 100 kWh), Croatia (4 euros per 100 kWh) and Lithuania (4.1 euros per 100 kWh).
The highest natural gas prices were recorded in Sweden (€ 18.6 per 100 kWh), Denmark (€ 12.5 per 100 kWh), the Netherlands (€ 11 per 100 kWh) and Spain (€ 10.8 per 100 kWh). p>
