The employer side in the Journalistic Organization "O Phileleftheros" withdrew an internal directive, which led to a spontaneous work stoppage of the employees on Thursday morning, as informed by KYPE.
The employees of the Journalistic Organization went on a spontaneous work stop around 12:00, due to the posting of an internal regulation in the relevant staff communication area, which referred to a reduction in the number of rest leaves and the removal of a half-day.
This was followed by an extraordinary General Assembly, convened by the Cyprus Editors' Union, OVIEK – SEC and SEVETTYK – PEO, with all the staff in the Journalism Organization, which includes journalists, technical and secretarial staff from the websites, radio, magazines and the newspaper going on strike.
However, around 2:00 p.m.: 00 the employer side withdrew the posted internal regulation, asking the trade unions for consultation.
After the joint actions of ESK, OBIEK-SEK and SEVETTYK – PEO achieved, according to the same information, "the withdrawal of the employer's unilateral decision to reduce the number of rest days from 29 to 26 days and the removal of the August 14 half-day".
The employers' side, the information states, will consult with the staff unions in the next period, with the aim of resolving the crisis, while the trade unions have already made a complaint to the Mediation Service of the Ministry of Labour.
Competent a source reported to KYPE that "the employer decided unilaterally and arbitrarily to alter essential provisions of the Collective Agreement, regarding holidays and rest leaves", noting that this "constitutes a casus belli".
According with the same source, "the Cyprus Editors' Union, OVIEK – SEC and SEVETTYK – PEO together managed to withdraw the unilateral decision, noting that a consultation on the matter will follow. As he pointed out, regardless of the outcome of the consultation of the three unions with the employer side, accept the unilateral alteration of any provision of the Collective Agreement».
