A 31-year-old resident of Larnaca was arrested in an episodic manner yesterday afternoon in Nicosia, who was wanted to facilitate the investigations into investigated cases of car theft, illegal drug possession and interference in a police investigation.
A police statement states that shortly after 5 yesterday afternoon, a member of the Nicosia Traffic Police, who was conducting a road check in Nicosia, signaled to a car, which did not have registration plates, to stop. The driver of the vehicle, however, failed to stop and, developing speed, tried to escape. The member of the Traffic Police followed the vehicle with his official motorcycle to the area of Anthoupolis, where the suspicious vehicle collided with a second vehicle and was immobilized.
The driver tried to escape by running, as a result of which he was stopped by the police officer. It should be noted that during the pursuit, the suspicious vehicle collided with various passing vehicles, on various roads in the area of Strovolos.
From examinations carried out after the immobilization of the driver, it was established that he is a 31-year-old resident of Larnaca. A quantity of cannabis was found in her possession after an investigation. As it was ascertained, the car driven by the 31-year-old, had been reported as a theft at the Limassol Police Department, from June 9, 2021.
Arrest warrants were also pending against the 31-year-old for cases of drug trafficking and possession, car theft and police intervention, committed in the provinces of Larnaca and Limassol, between March and May 2021.
The 31-year-old was arrested on warrants and remanded in custody to facilitate investigations.
