If you suddenly saw on your Facebook account someone you don't know or someone you may know, but for whatever reason you don't want to be among your online friends, have accepted the request friendship that you sent, then your account may have fallen victim to of an unusual bug, which has caused disruption to platform users.

According to what has become known and reported by technology websites, users claim that Facebook is inexplicably sending automatic friend requests to people who have previously visited their profiles.

And it can in some cases create social problems of a different nature – imagine for example that you "search" on Facebook your ex's current partner or maybe an old colleague with whom you no longer have relations and suddenly he or she receives a friend request that you would never send, but this particular issue is more serious, as potentially compromises users' privacy and control, raising concerns about potential violations of personal boundaries and the violation of digital consent.

The bug in question occurs when a user visits another person's profile, triggering a unsolicited friend request to be sent by the visitor to the profile owner.

Facebook keeps a fishy silence and – so far – has not taken a position or acknowledged the existence of an error, but the same is not the case with the users of the social networking medium both in Greece and abroad, who react by shedding "light" to the problems raised.

"Every time I visit the profile of someone who is not my friend, Facebook automatically sends them a friend request. Anyone having this issue?? How to fix it? Please help,” wrote one Reddit user, while another considered taking more drastic measures. "Yes, it's time to deactivate my account and log out of Facebook. This is ridiculous,'' he wrote.

"Bad day to see an ex's profile. Hopefully I blocked him and then deactivated the account, they won't see who it was. Who knows, I just have to laugh… And cry,' another user wrote on Reddit.

"My husband's colleague was automatically friend-requested! I blocked them as soon as I noticed it but I don't know if it will show up in their notification or not. So embarrassing. Let's hope they don't think I'm trying to flirt with them,'' one woman wrote.

It's noted that the cause of the bug is still unclear, and it still doesn't appear on Meta's website, Platform Bug Reports.
