Greece – “Elpis”: Serious problems on highways due to snowfall (video)

With heavy snowfalls and severe cold, the onset of bad weather “Elpis” in Greece continues, with a particularly strong presence in Attica.

In a special circular, the Greek Ministry of Interior announced the release of all civil servants from 12 noon on Monday, except for those whose duties are directly related to dealing with adverse weather conditions.

According to the relevant circular, the public services related to dealing with bad weather will be coordinated, in order to ensure their staffing to serve the public interest regarding the effects of emergency weather conditions.

Meanwhile, frost and heavy snowfall have caused serious traffic problems on the capital's central and regional highways. So far, traffic has been disrupted on several roads in the northern suburbs, while sections of the National Highways for trucks and heavy vehicles are closed.

At the same time, there are suspensions and route changes in the Metro, the tram and the Regional.

According to the authorities, the services of the Municipality of Athens and the Attica Region are on foot, in order to implement the business plan for dealing with bad weather.

On Monday morning, the 112 service sent a message to the residents of Attica, warning of heavy snowfall and calling for the avoidance of any unnecessary movement.

At the same time, in all parts of the country, schools of all levels of education remain closed. Specifically, today and tomorrow, e-learning will remain closed and will be conducted in the Regions of Attica, Crete and Cyclades and in the Regional Units of Fthiotida, Corinth, Florina, Kilkis, Lemnos, Viotia and Evia.

During the next hours, worsening of the bad weather is expected, with intensity of the phenomena mainly in areas of Eastern Attica, Peloponnese and Evia.
