The deputy of the DISY and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Haris Georgiadis, categorically condemned the missile attack by Iran against Israel. At the same time, he pointed out that the Republic of Cyprus must be on the right side of history.

< p>Specifically in his statement he said:

We condemn in the most categorical manner Iran's missile attack against Israel. Despite the fact that the attack was repelled by Israeli air defense and allied forces, its scope, as well as the threats of the Tehran regime, reinforce our concern for the destabilization of the wider region.

The Republic of Cyprus as an EU member state thatmaintains strategically important relations with Israel, but also excellent relations with the moderate Arab states of the region, itshould be on the right side of history. And at the same time highlight its role as a pillar of security and stability.

Our country is safe, but that should not lead us to complacency. On the contrary, the unregulated situation and the increase in asymmetric threats require the significant strengthening of Defense and our deterrent capabilities. In the same context, it is necessary to chart a strategic course for the creation of relations and finally the accession of Cyprus to NATO. Which is a permanent position of the Democratic Alert.

The stormy developments in the Middle East demonstrate once again that there are no frozen conflicts, nor can open wounds be left. We must convince that the end of the Turkish occupation and the reunification of our homeland will not only ensure the safety of all Cypriots, but will contribute decisively to the stability of the entire region.

Emphasis should also be given to dealing with potential impacts on our economy. The bases of our economy are certainly stable, due to the prudent policy of our ten-year government, however, vigilance and readiness to take measures is required. We must have the same readiness in relation to dealing with new, increased, immigration pressures, through and from the required support of the EU.

In all these issues, the governmental policy should focus more on substance and less on communication. But what should concern the government is the adequacy of our state to deal with any misinformation, hostile propaganda and spread of false news. An effort in which the media also have a role.
