Ground handling companies at Cyprus airports must respect, adopt and adhere to collective agreements, including previous agreements between the Government and Trade Unions for workers, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works says.

A written announcement by the Ministry of Transport refers to the two-hour work stoppage of ground handling staff at Larnaca airport, which took place today, Tuesday, and reminds that “in accordance with the Ministerial Decree number K.D.P 550/2021 and the Regulations governing licensing and operation of the airport ground handling companies, the said companies must respect, adopt and observe the collective agreements, including the previous agreements between the Government and the Trade Unions, regarding the terms and conditions of employment and the remuneration of the employees, including workers who were previously employed by the state and were transferred to any of these companies”.

The Ministry also reminds that “in the relevant Regulations accompanying the Decree it is stated that priority for employment is given to any redundant personnel from existing companies due to reduction of Mr their scope of work”.

At the same time “the Ministry of Transport considers that today's work stoppage does not serve anything and nor did it need to be done, in view of tomorrow's meeting between Minister Yannis Karousos and the competent Services of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance with all those involved, which had been planned since yesterday Monday”.
