Canada, in coordination with the United States and Britain, announced Friday that it is imposing sanctions on 10 individuals and 153 entities in an effort to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The punitive measures target those who support the war through financial, logistical support and sanctions avoidance and include senior officials of private and state-owned companies registered in Russia and Cyprus, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

US trade restrictions on 93 entities

New trade restrictions on a total of 93 entities, from Russia, China, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, India and South Korea, for supporting its war effort of Russia in Ukraine, the Biden Administration imposed on Friday.

The action, a day before the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, means the companies will be added to the U.S. Commerce Department's “entity list,” effectively barring U.S. shipments to them.

Of the newly listed entities, 63 are from Russia, 16 from Turkey, eight from China and four from the United Arab Emirates.

The US Commerce Department announced that some of the companies were added for their role in diverting controlled microelectronics to Russia's military and intelligence authorities.

The move is one element of the latest round of sanctions and controls on exports from the United States, partners and allies in response to Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.

The US also announced that it would also impose sanctions on more than 500 targets for war and the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Earlier this week, the European Union approved a 13th package of Ukraine-related sanctions against Russia, placing bans on nearly 200 entities and individuals accused of helping Moscow procure weapons or being involved in child abductions from Ukraine.

“With today's actions, we have now placed more than 900 parties on our entity list for their role in Putin's full-scale invasion of Ukraine,” said Commerce Department Assistant Secretary Matthew S .Axelrod.

Entities included in the list include United Arab Emirates-based Crynofist Aviation, which supplies airplane parts. Russia has faced severe sanctions on its passenger airline fleet for the past two years and has struggled to maintain and keep the planes operating.

Crynofist did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
