New crisis in the occupied territories due to lack of fuel

Under the headline “Additional debt owed to electricity authority”, the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Halkin Sesi writes that the “electricity authority” (KIB-TEK) in the occupied territories, which already owes 1 billion Turkish lira, was forced to look for a time loan to be able to buy fuel.

According to the Press and Information Office, the newspaper writes that a cargo ship of a specific fuel transport company was delayed for hours yesterday to unload the fuel that would be transported to the power plant in the occupied village of Bank (Kyrenia), due to the fact that “KIB-T” could not pay the costs.

It is also reported that the power plant has fuel that is only enough for 12 hours and the newspaper writes that in order to overcome the crisis, the “prime minister” Faiz Suzuoglu had to intervene.

According to the newspaper, the “Ministry of Finance” covered part of the costs for the purchase of fuel, paying 7 million 400 thousand dollars while the remaining amount was covered by an overdue loan.

The “prime minister” Suzuoglu said that the amount of debt increases every time a ship arrives to transport fuel and added that “at the moment they are in a deadlock, as always.”

Arguing that they are looking for new energy ways to tackle the fuel issue, Suzuoglu explained that last week a presentation was made on a new fuel production model, which is currently being evaluated by technical staff.

He added that it would be helpful if the evaluation showed a positive result and explained that this is a new technique applied in Europe in specific countries and will be a new technique in energy, which will be used for the next 30 years.
