OAU: 2022 ended on a positive note

With positive sign in providing quality of health services closed in 2022, states the OAU, which cites the strengthening of the NHS and the upgrading of services for the benefit of beneficiaries as the most important challenges.  

In a statement it is stated that 2022 was a pivotal year and the OAU, in pursuit of the armoring of the System, proceeded with decisive changes and modifications, strengthened controls, enriched existing and introduced new services, strengthened the position of the beneficiaries within the National Social Insurance System, ensuring with this way the beneficiaries receive more and upgraded services on a continuous basis.

From the beginning of 2022 until the end of December, based on data, 801,930 beneficiaries visited Personal Physicians, 608,120 beneficiaries visited Specialist Physicians, 667,659 beneficiaries have received their medicines through the System (at the moment the NHS covers approximately 2,100 medicines, with this number including over 500 innovators), 500,075 beneficiaries have had laboratory tests, 278,911 beneficiaries visited Dentists, 155,966 beneficiaries were served by other Health Professionals, 122,551 beneficiaries visited Accident and Emergency Departments and 105,874 beneficiaries received inpatient care services .

In addition, in 2022, the Health Insurance Organization proceeded to take strict measures in order to limit phenomena of exploitation by providers and beneficiaries. It differentiated the payment model of PIs, adopting quality criteria, implemented quality control of referrals from PIs to Specialists and modified the right to change PIs every 12 months instead of 6.

Significant development for 2022, it states, was also the inclusion of 3 new hospitals, 4 palliative care centers and 2 dialysis units. From July of the same year, the on-call services of a Personal Physician were implemented at the NHS, during weekends and holidays, for incidents that do not require service from the Accident and Emergency Departments.

“The Health Insurance Organization , listening to the needs of society, works ceaselessly with the aim of providing constantly upgraded health services to the beneficiaries of the System. A continuous effort, which society perceives, creating a strong shield of protection around the NHS,” the announcement concludes.
