A meeting with the Minister of Education is requested by OELMEK, which in its statement accuses the Ministry of "inconsistency" with regard to the matters relating to the quadrennial examinations. Otherwise, OELMEK warns of taking measures, as stated in its announcement.

The Pan-Cypriot Conference of General Representatives (PSGA) of OELMEK, which met on December 22, 2022 in Nicosia, "denounces the unreliability and inconsistency displayed by the Ministry of the Interior in relation to the management of issues concerning the four-month exams", it added.< /p>

As reported, in an extraordinary meeting held by the organization with the Minister of Education on December 12, 2022, OELMEK emphasized the need for the Ministry of Education to announce the exam material in view of the upcoming January exams by December 21, 2022 at the latest, a request that was agreed to by the Minister of Education. OELMEK notes that the Minister of Education informed the President of the Confederation of Secondary Education Parents about his specific decision.

Following the above decision, the Ministry of Education, in a statement it issued on December 20, 2022, stated “that within the next few days the necessary arrangements should have been made so that students and teachers know before the interruption of classes for during the Christmas holidays, what will be included in the written assessment in January?

"So while there were these assurances from the Minister of Education, unfortunately, they were not implemented for all the courses in High School and High School, exacerbating thus the uncertainty, anxiety and stress of students and teachers”, says the announcement.

“Once again we observe the phenomenon of decisions taken at the level of the Minister of Education being overturned and/or not implemented at lower levels of the Ministry's hierarchy,” it added.

OELMEK points out that “such actions and attitudes are undermining the efforts we have been making in the last few months, so that no additional problems are created due to the implementation of the four-month exams and at the same time they are igniting new tensions and crises in the field of Education”.

The organization emphasizes that it requests an immediate meeting with the Minister of Education, in order to clarify at the highest level all the issues related to these tactics and methods.

Otherwise, OELMEK "will be obliged due to the irresponsible handling of specific high-ranking officials of YPAN, whose actions affect students, teachers and others’ extension of the Public School, to proceed with taking measures”, concludes the announcement.
