Fire has been lit, once again, for the four-month exams, with the professors calling on the Ministry of Education to comply with the instructions given by the political leader, regarding the subject to be examined, while otherwise, their organization warns by taking dynamic measures.

As stated in a related announcement by OELMEK, the Pan-Cypriot Conference of General Representatives (PGA) of OELMEK, which met on December 22, 2022 in Nicosia, denounces the unreliability and inconsistency demonstrated by the Ministry of the Interior in relation to the management of issues related to the examinations four months.

“Specifically, in an extraordinary meeting held by OELMEK with the Minister of Education on December 12, 2022, our Organization emphasized the need for the Ministry of Education to announce the exam material in view of the upcoming January exams no later than December 21, 2022, a request to which it agreed the Minister of Education. We note that for his specific decision, the Minister of Education also informed the President of the Confederation of Secondary Education Parents”.

The professors, in their statement, note that “following the above decision, the Ministry of Education in a statement issued on December 20, 2022, stated “that within the next few days the necessary arrangements should have been made so that the students and teachers to know before the interruption of classes for the Christmas holidays what will be included in the written assessment in January”.

The announcement adds that “while there were these assurances from the Minister of Education, unfortunately, these were not implemented for all the courses in Middle School and High School, thus increasing the uncertainty, anxiety and stress of students and teachers. Once again we observe the phenomenon of decisions made at the level of the Minister of Education being overturned and/or not implemented at lower levels of the Ministry's hierarchy”.

OELMEK, continuing, notes that “such actions and behaviors undermine the efforts we have been making all the last months, so that no additional problems are created due to the implementation of the four-month exams and at the same time they trigger new tensions and crises in the field of Education. For this reason, we request an immediate meeting with the Minister of Education, in order to clarify at the highest level all the issues related to these tactics and methods”.

Otherwise, the announcement concludes, “the Our organization will be forced due to the irresponsible actions of specific high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whose actions affect students, teachers and by extension the Public School, to proceed with taking measures”.
