As stated in an announcement by the University, elections were held on Wednesday at the University of Cyprus for the appointment of the new Rector and the new Vice-Rectors of the University of Cyprus. The eighth Rector's Elections of the University of Cyprus were held without opposition candidates since only one nomination had been submitted for each of the three offices of the Rector's Office.

During the election process, according to the announcement of the results for the office of Rector, which took place at the Sports Center of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofidis of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Positive and Applied Sciences, was re-elected Rector for a second consecutive four-year term. who continues his rector's duties until 2026.

The members of the university community voted normally for all three positions despite the fact that there are no opposition candidates. The members of the Academic staff (339 in total), the representatives of the Students in the Department Councils (115 in total) and the representatives of the Administrative Staff (20 in total) had the right to vote.

The results of the eighth Chancellor's Elections for the appointment of Rector and Vice-Chancellors, held on Wednesday at the Sports Center of the University of Cyprus, are as follows:

For the election of Rector, they voted: 364 (Valid ballots: 352, Invalid ballots: 12 and White ballots: 43). Professor Tasos Christofidis received 309 votes and is re-elected.

In his short speech after the announcement of the results, the re-elected Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofidis, after thanking the members of the university community for the confidence they once again showed in him and for honoring him with their vote for a second consecutive term , said that “the honor is great and the responsibility now is maximum for continuing the collective course, based on the common vision for a creative, modern University with a substantial impact on the European area of ​​higher education and research”.

“Based on our values ​​and together with all members of the University of Cyprus community, I want our University to continue to progress with an emphasis on the production of research work of excellent quality, social impact and the excellent education of its students. Let quality and excellence in research, innovation and teaching be our primary goal”, stressed the Rector.

The voting and the announcement of the results for the office of the two will follow on Wednesday afternoon. Vice Chancellors, the announcement points out.

Candidate for the position of Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs is Professor Eleni-Tatiani Sinodinos of the Law Department of the School of Social Sciences and Educational Sciences.

Candidate for the position the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Finance and Administration is Professor Ioannis Giapintzakis of the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering of the Polytechnic School.

The announcement of the Vice-Rectors will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Sports Center of the University of Cyprus, concludes the announcement.
