The Educational Organizations OELMEK, POED and OLTEK with their joint statement strongly disagree with the way the Government is trying to implement its decision to extend Compulsory Pre-Primary Education, from the age of 4, expressing at the same time, “their strong concern that the above unacceptable decision, will pave the way for corresponding practices throughout Public Education”.

As stated, in order to cover the needs that arise due to this decision, instead of proceeding with a similar plan so that every child has the right to access a Public Kindergarten, it sends the children with a subsidy to Private Education.

< p>The Ministry of Education should proceed immediately with the conversion of the existing Community Kindergartens into Public ones and with the submission of a specific plan for building expansion and/or construction of new classrooms, where and where deemed necessary, states the announcement.

The educational organizations call on the government and especially the Ministry of Education, “even if it's the last one, to diversify their decisions and protect the Public School, ensuring its quality upgrade” and appeal to the Parliament to reject the government's plans and protect the Public School”.

They also invite all parties and MPs, especially the Parliamentary Education Committee, “as you send a clear message that the State's duty is to support first and foremost the good of Public Education”.
