An art exhibition by four women working in different artistic fields is coming to Prozac Cafe from January 11th to 31st. For the exhibition, four friends and former colleagues from the field of Arts and Communication meet and collaborate, wanting to talk about what it means to be a woman in Cyprus today. The works talk about the position of women in Cypriot society, oppression, abuse, women's relationship with the body and themselves. In other words, the anxiety of being a woman, which remains even if we reach 2023.

The exhibition takes place in Prozac's new exhibition space, the Common Room, right next to the beloved coffee shop located in the heart of Nicosia, at 3A Medontos Street. The works touch on the issue of female existence and stand up against the patriarchy, in some cases with humor and in others in a raw and realistic way. Every day except Sunday, Alexia Nisiforou, Ermina Dimitriou, Maria Loizou and Niki Lialiari will be waiting for you from 6 pm to 10 pm to present you their works and listen to your own opinions and experiences. Additionally, you can visit the exhibition on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 to 5.

The visual event will be framed by discussions, screenings and an open mic that will close the three-week journey, open to all, everything and everyone. The full program of parallel actions can be found on the page Women Need More Sleep Because Fighting The Patriarchy Is Exhausting or by following them on @womenneedmoresleep – but it is worth mentioning that this is a rich and very interesting program of events that includes discussions with everyday women, but and with scientists distinguished in their field, a licensed psychologist and, finally, a screening of the excellent Cypriot film Pause, by Tonia Misiali, in the presence of the director.

“In a patriarchal society, in which women exist only to they see her, what does it mean to be a woman? In a world where woman exists as a complement to (her) man, what does it mean to live as a woman? What does it mean to live alone either by choice or by chance? What does it mean to have a different sexual orientation or appearance that defies mainstream norms? How free are you? What does it mean to live in fear of harassment? How much power does the male gaze carry? How does a woman feel just about being a woman?”

This is the description of the exhibition of the four women, who invite you to reflect with them and take action – together.
