The large fire that broke out today at noon in the industrial area of Agios Silas, according to the press representative of the fire service Andreas Ketti. The fire left behind more than 6 square kilometers of burnt land.
In a post on Platform X, Mr. Kettis states that aerial vehicles have left the area due to darkness, but strong ground firefighting forces are operating.
“The firefighting forces are lined up around the perimeter and will work throughout the night to extinguish it. Strong forces will remain tomorrow as well as there is a serious risk of a resurgence due to the winds predicted for tomorrow,” says Mr. Kettis.
Tomorrow with the first light of day, the aircraft will start dropping water for final extinguishing of the fires.
According to the press representative of the fire service, the fire burned an area of more than 6 square meters kilometers of wild vegetation and trees. “Possible damage to agricultural crops or properties will be recorded after the fire is fully extinguished,” says Mr. Kettis.
It is added that tomorrow with the first light of day all four aerial vehicles that were operating today (Forest aircraft, E.F helicopter and two helicopters from British Bases) will operate.
