A Memorandum of Understanding between the Surgical Society of Cyprus (SSO) and the Oncological Society of Cyprus (SSO) was recently signed during the session of the National Cancer Committee, in a joint effort to improve the oncology services provided.
According to today's announcement, the two Scientific Societies, recognizing the value of the multidisciplinary treatment of oncological cases, recommend the multidisciplinary discussion of the cases in multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary Councils, since the joint recording of therapeutic recommendations based on international guidelines strengthens the position of the attending physician and improves therapeutic results and survival, while at the same time increasing the degree of confidence of the patients in the proposed therapeutic manipulations,
Also, they point out that the discussion of the cases enables the attending physician, who in any case bears the responsibility of making the final decision, to exchange scientific opinions.
The presence of the attending physician during the presence of discussion of the incident is considered particularly important.
The National Cancer Commission welcomes the initiative of the Surgeon of the Society of Cyprus and the Oncology Society of Cyprus and expresses the hope that other scientific societies will proceed with similar efforts that have as their ultimate goal the benefit of patients.
