It is important to make our country's historical connection with France as the Kingdom of the Lusignans widely known, stressed the Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis, who made important contacts in the last two days in Paris, as part of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's participation in the major Paris tourist exhibition IFTM 2023.

According to a statement from the Deputy Ministry, Mr. Koumis had a series of meetings with leading executives of tourism organizations that run tourism programs to Cyprus, where they exchanged views both on the impressive course recorded by the French market this year, and on the prospects for the new year. which according to the existing indications are positive.

It is added that the Deputy Minister also had a one-hour meeting with the Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Makram Al Queisi, where ways of closer cooperation between the two countries in the field were discussed of tourism, with particular emphasis on the creation of joint tourist packages, a topic that was also discussed in the recent past.

Also of note was the participation of the Deputy Minister of Tourism during yesterday's opening day of the exhibition in a panel discussion on sustainable tourism development, which was also attended by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Jordan, Makram Al Queisi, the Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, William Rodriquez , and Atout France CEO Caroline Leboucher.

It is added that during the discussion, Mr. Koumis, after presenting some of the actions that are currently taking place or that have taken place in the past in this direction, praised the increased presence of French visitors this year in Cyprus and also spoke about the historical connection between the two countries, taking into account that Cyprus was a kingdom of the Lusignans for about 3 centuries.

The Deputy Ministry also states that Mr. Koumis gave interviews to French Mass Media, analyzing the comparative advantages and the many and quality options that a visitor can enjoy in our country.

In his statements after the contacts in Paris, Mr. Koumis said that it is without a doubt a very important and extremely important exhibition, in which Cyprus, as a tourist country, must always declare its presence, and that the French market has grown in recent years for Cyprus and this has been accepted with satisfaction.

He added that the Cypriot delegation was informed by the front line operators about the level of satisfaction of the French visitors which is very high and this fills us with optimism.

“I believe that now is the right time to invest more in this purchase in relation to the product and promotional material. Just today we have decided to create new material aimed at the French market. The most important thing is to make widely known the historical connection of our country with France, as the Kingdom of the Lusignans. I was delighted by the reaction of those present at the round table discussion yesterday when we made this particular report. It is an indication that there is something here that we should invest in,” he noted.

“It is well known that French tourists are characterized to a large extent as cultural visitors, and they like excursions focused on historical searches. There is the historical connection, there is the history and we must definitely highlight it. Our responsibility is to develop product and advertising material for the French market”, concluded Mr. Koumis.
