In 2022 Paphos can reach 70% of the yield of 2019, which is considered the best last year, estimates the president of the Paphos Hoteliers Association Thanos Michailidis.
In his statements, Mr. Michailidis stated that as the summer season unfolds for this year, the Paphos hoteliers will focus mainly on the largest market, which is the market of Great Britain, and then on all the new markets, which are smaller. Indicatively, he noted that they will try to increase the tourist flow from markets such as Germany, Israel, Poland and France in order to be able, as he said, to improve not only the fullness, but also the stability of the fullness, during the summer.
He pointed out that the goal of the hoteliers is to increase the occupancy as much as possible, stating that they will be lower than 2019, but better than 2021.
In relation to the challenges they face the hoteliers, he said, are two. First, the labor shortage, which is a global phenomenon and not a Cypriot one, adding to the second problem of hoteliers, focuses on inflation and frightening increases.
He then referred to the cost of electricity. “No matter how hard we try to save electricity,” he said, “unfortunately hotel rooms need to be cooled in the summer.” which makes the operation of hotels more difficult, as he said.
Next winter we predict a reduced profitability following the last two years which were tragic, this will make the work of hoteliers more difficult in terms of investment and improvement of the hotel product, he added.
Regarding the quality of the tourist, he said that This is satisfactory on average, adding that this is evident in the fact that the visitor to Paphos chooses to stay more days and spend a little more on vacation.
Asked if the pandemic continues to influence, Mr. Michailidis said that the world has largely overcome the issue of the pandemic and is no longer something that concerns him so much during his vacation. The visitor is careful, but he is also interested in his holidays, he concluded.
