It can measure almost a decade as a performer, however, Little Simz made her “breakthrough” with the record “Grey Area” in 2019 and rightly many considered her one of the most interesting names in British hip-hop.
Then, the Nigerian-born Londoner was nominated for the Mercury Prize, which she ultimately did not win. It did, however, this year, as the 2022 Mercury went to Little Simz for her album 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'.

The Mercury Prize for Best British or Irish Album comes with a cash prize of £25,000.
Accepting the award at London's Eventim Apollo, where the ceremony took place on Tuesday night, Little Simz made no secret of her her surprise and commented: “I'm very shocked, I'm very grateful. God thank you so much, thank you my family here, my loved ones here. I want to say a huge “Thank you” for this incredible, incredible award. I want to thank my brother and close associate, Inflo. We created this album together. There were moments in the studio when I didn't know if I was going to finish this record, I had all these feelings. But he was there”.
The musician also addressed the other nominees: “All of you are incredible, we've all made incredible albums, we're all changing people's lives with our music and that's the most important thing, so this award is really for us.”
