The signing of the Agreement between the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (TATHE) and NewCytech Business Solutions Ltd., a member of the LOGICOM Group, for the development of a Unified Group, took place today, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis Fisheries Management, with the aim of further improving the productivity and efficiency of TATHE, especially in relation to the issues of fishing activity.

The Agreement was signed on behalf of TATHE, the Director Mrs. Marina Argyrou and on behalf of NewCytech Business Solutions Ltd., the CEO, Mr. Andreas Dermosoniadis. The ceremony was also attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (YGAAP), Mr. Andreas Grigoriou, the Director of the IT Services Department, Mr. Adriana Achilleos, as well as Mr. George Hadjichristofiou and Mr. Hadjichristofi. , Directors of the Contractor company.

In his statements after the signing of the Agreement, the Minister stated the following:

“As you know, we are entering the period of digital transformation, which is at the core of the European Union Green Agreement. Therefore, we could not fail to move in the direction of utilizing the tools offered by technology to improve our own work. Especially when we refer to the work of a Department, such as TATHE, which has as a very important mission the protection of the marine environment of our country, the management of fishing activity, the support and control of our fishermen and, in general , promoting sustainable blue growth. We believe that this project will help TATHE to carry out its mission in a much more efficient and rational way “.

According to the Minister, the project has a implementation period of 22 months, while the provision of maintenance services, technical support and infrastructure for a period of 10 years is provided. The total cost of the project amounts to € 5.4 million and will be co-financed under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund 2021-2027. This project is included in the projects that are posted on the “EXANTAS” System, that is, it is included in the projects announced by President Anastasiadis, as part of his governance program. “With the signing of today's contract, we are moving from the announcement and the planning to the implementation”, added Mr. Kadis.

Addressing the Contractor Company, the Minister expressed his warm thanks for the interest he showed as well as the certainty that the planned schedules will be observed. “I am sure that you will also confirm, through the implementation of the System, that this is a very important project, which will raise the level of operation of TATHE several steps higher,” the Minister concluded.

On his part, the CEO of NewCytech Business Solutions Ltd., Mr. Andreas Dermosoniadis, thanked YGAAP, TATHE and the Department of Information Services of the Republic of Cyprus for the trust they showed in his Company by awarding such an important Contract. . “The project concerns the creation of the Cyprus Fisheries Management System, which will ensure the existence of control mechanisms for fishery resources in the sea area of Cyprus but will also ensure that the Republic of Cyprus will comply with the Rules and Regulations of the Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union. From the side of the company, I want to assure that we will do what is humanly possible, in order to implement and deliver the project within the schedules “, stressed Mr. Dermosoniadis concluding.

Among the activities that will be automated and carried out more efficiently by TATHE and at the same time will be more user-friendly for the users of the system, who will be the fishermen themselves, include:

Electronic issuance of Fishing Licenses (professional / amateur). Collection and validation of all fishery data in electronic form. Maintenance and control / management of fishing capacity. Monitoring and management of fishing effort, restrictions on licensing and permitted fishing gear, managing the overall capacity of the fleet and ensuring that the activity of vessels is recorded by locating them. Implementation of technical measures (minimum landing sizes, gear specifications, enclosed fishing areas, restrictions on allowable catch quantities, etc.) and regional management plans, as well as monitoring of allocated quotas in the case of catches subject to measures under management. Enforcement of legislation on fishing activities through controls and inspections, handling of infringements and imposition of sanctions. Effective cross-referencing of data relating to fishing activities and the geographical location of vessels through a common model for collecting information. Precise exchange of data from fisheries activities with other Member States, third countries, the European Union and other relevant bodies.
