The possibility of a meeting in New York between the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis and the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar is very likely.
Diplomatic sources told KYPE that it should be expected that the UN Secretary General will seize the opportunity given to him by the simultaneous presence of Anastasiadis – Tatar in New York, later this month, and will seek to have a joint meeting with them for a discussion of the situation as it is shaped. It is recalled that Mr. Guterres will have separate meetings with Mr. Anastasiadis and Mr. Tatar at the United Nations.
The same sources noted, at the same time, that in essence nothing seems to change, since the Turkish Cypriot side continues to insist on its claim for sovereign equality.
It is recalled that President Anastasiadis, in the letter he sent to the UN Secretary General on August 30, but also through his public statements, has expressed his readiness for a tripartite meeting in New York.
For his part, Mr. Tatar, recently asked about the possibility of such a meeting, said that he is always open to dialogue and any informal meeting to express his views in detail.
