Two doses of Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19 prevent disease in almost all people vaccinated, according to a new study.
Data collected in Israel – well ahead of the global vaccination race – show that only 0.04% of those who received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine became ill with Covid19.
Of the 700,000 people who received both doses of the vaccine, only 317 became infected later, and only 16 of them needed to be hospitalized. The same research suggests that this vaccine also provides protection against the most contagious British variant of the coronavirus. “This is very good news,” said Israeli infectious disease specialist Eyal Lesem. “The initial findings are unbelievable. After one dose of the vaccine the cases were substantially reduced and after two only at 0.04%. “Time will tell, we still need more data, but the preliminary findings are very encouraging,” he added.
