The management of the Green Line, although it is not an external border, is considered necessary in order to reduce the immigration problem and to prevent the flow of illegal immigrants in our country, said the Minister of Interior, Nikos Nouris.
Speaking on state radio, he said this could be done by placing natural barriers, stressing that the arguments that a fence promotes bifurcation are a joke.
Mr. Nouris clarified that by signing a joint statement at the European Conference on Border Management, held in Lithuania, the Cypriot Government can take any action it wishes to address the immigration problem without any political dispute, at least at European level. .
Financing the installation of any obstacles, he added, is not a problem. What Cyprus is claiming, said Nikos Nouris, is for the European Union to take initiatives towards Turkey, so that there is respect on an equal footing with other European countries in terms of how to manage the immigration problem.
