Thousands of people will be in the mountain villages in the run-up to Easter, honoring the tradition of our country, where of course, apart from the spit, the games that take place in various communities have their honor, in an effort to preserve them over time of years from generation to generation, our manners and customs.
As every year, so this year too, dozens of communities have already organized their program for Easter day and count down naturally so that the villages will be flooded with locals, but also foreigners, who will rush to experience some moments of relaxation. Some of the villages that will be buzzing with life and have already planned a series of events are: Agros, Alona, Platanistasa, Kyperounda, Kampos Tsakkistras, Evrychou, Galata, Saradi, Tembria, Askas, Agios Ioannis Pitsilias, Gourri, Dymes, Potamitissa, Kakopetria , Akaki, Asgata, Dierona, Moniatis, Pelendri, Louvaras, Lefkara and Polystypos.
As the president of the Union of Communities, Andreas Kitromilidis, explained to the REPORTER, the communities of all the villages, wanting to attract the attention of the world, organize events with traditional games. “After the lambratzia custom, on Easter Sunday and also on Easter Monday, traditional games and various activities are organized, which revive the customs and traditions of our country. Already, each community has informed from its side what they will present and what they will do in the run-up to Easter for their residents to know”.
Regarding the fact that this year the citizens might turn their backs on the mountains due to the summer scenery, Mr. Kitromilidis was against this opinion. “We do not believe that the people and also the emigrants from the mountain villages will not go to their village and will prefer to go to the beach on the holidays. The days of the holidays, we consider that they will always be in the communities with relatives, friends and this is what Easter smells like. As every year, all the emigrants from the mountain communities are transferred to their villages on Easter. Easter events are held in almost all the villages, but certainly in the mountains the presence of people is stronger every year and we expect something similar to happen this year as well”.
At the same time, through these events that have been planned, an intense effort is made to return the young people to the villages, so that they can be kept alive over the years. As the president of the Union of Communities mentioned, “several things need to be done for young people to return to the mountains, and it's not just the housing plans given by the Government and the support allowance for mountain communities. As a Union of Communities, we have given our positions on what needs to be done to enable young couples to return and live with all the necessities in the villages. Some of them are the creation of workplaces, schools, recreational areas and the most important are the roads that have started to be built to reduce the distances from urban centers and mountainous areas”.
In conclusion, Mr. Kitromilidis made it clear that no elderly person living in the mountain villages is going to spend Easter alone. “Through the organized events of the Community Councils and Associations that exist in the communities, the whole world will celebrate Easter and no elderly person will be left alone at home. That's why the Easter events are held in the mountains, for lonely people who don't have someone of their own, to be with the rest of their fellow villagers and spend beautiful moments, as befits the day”.
