For the last six months, Michalis Hadjipandelas has been at the helm, speaking to “P” and giving an account of his work, talking about the next steps of the government to continue to control the pandemic. He did not hesitate to refer to the changes that must be made in public hospitals, but also to the “deadline” he gives to the OAU to manage abuses.

How do you assess the first six months at the helm of the Ministry of Health, in conditions that could not be described as normal due to the pandemic?
During these six difficult months I experienced things I have never experienced before. Under unprecedented circumstances and taking a brief look back, I can say with certainty that I have no regrets about taking over. The Ministry of Health is a great responsibility and I believe that in difficult times we must all help our place and not hide. As for the pandemic, I personally expected that after the Delta mutation things would be easier, however I did not expect in any case that the Omicron variant would appear at the end of November, which also finds us at Christmas. This is a variant of the virus that changed everything we knew, as it seems to be more contagious and therefore no complacency is allowed, as the appearance of positive cases of the Omicron variant in our country may further aggravate the epidemiological picture, which happened and in other countries. 2-3 months ago, the experts had informed me that we will have a new wave in Cyprus only if a new mutation appears, as it did.
