The Limassol derby was painted “blue” with Apollon beating AEL 3-1. Pablo Machin's side were better throughout the game and celebrated their first win of 2024.

Part 1

The Lemme derby started with both teams coming in quite strongly and trying to dictate the pace of the game.
In the first quarter, Apollos was better on the field and was more threatening. In the 11th minute, Pablo Machin's players managed to open the scoring. Daricua crossed from the right and Malekkidis beat Oliveira with a nailed header and put his team in front of the score.

AEL failed to react after the goal they conceded as their players made several easy mistakes.

Nevertheless, as time passed the “blue and yellow” started to come forward and tried to threaten more. Their first significant phase in the game took place in the 42nd minute with Makris getting a header after a corner kick but the ball hit the crossbar.

One minute later however what Makris failed to do was Franzis. . After a pass from Gerolemos, the right back of AEL made a strong shot and defeated Leuwenberg and brought the game to level.

AEL did not manage to celebrate their goal enough as Apollonas managed to take the lead again just before the end of the half. Marques made the shot from outside the area and beat Oliveira, making it 1-2 for his team.
Thus, the end of the first half found Apollon leading AEL 2-1.

Second Part

As the half ended Apollonas started the second as they managed to score in the 47th minute. Valbuena took the ball, swerved inside and took the shot sending the ball into the right corner of Oliveira who was unable to react.

AEL after a long period threatened and tried to get back into the game with Makris attempting a shot in the 63rd minute but Lewenberg saved in a corner.

The pace of the game dropped considerably in the following minutes, making Apollon footballers easier.

AEL looked for a goal at the end to get back into the game but Apollon footballers managed the game properly in the last minutes.

Nothing changed until and the final whistle with Apollon celebrating its first victory in 2024.
