The development of human resources is particularly important, through the interconnection of education with the labor market and the promotion of continuous professional learning, said today the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Yiannis Panagiotou, adding at the same time that both professional specialization and and its certification.

He was speaking today at the annual meeting of the Cyprus Human Resources Development Authority (HRDA) with the Vocational Training Centers, which this year was implemented in the context of the “European Year of Skills”.

In his greeting at the meeting, the Minister noted the catalytic role, which the human resources of our country are called upon to play in dealing with the emerging challenges in the Cypriot labor market, noting that this is the most important wealth-producing resource of our economy.

As Mr. Panagiotou mentioned, Cyprus bases its economic development and social cohesion on the quality and appropriate utilization of its human resources, while the continuous upgrading of the knowledge and skills of individuals through lifelong learning activities with the aim of satisfying of the needs of businesses and our economy, is essential.

Continuing, Mr. Panagiotou informed that the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance formulated an Action Plan for the European Year of Skills 2023 entitled “Modern Professional Development for the Green and Digital Transition” which was approved by the Council of Ministers. The Action Plan focuses on the promotion of green, digital, quality and safe professionalism and is based on three pillars, the development of a modern professional culture, the provision of socially targeted professional learning and the promotion of professional specialization and certification.

The Minister of Labor and Social Insurance emphasized the fact that the development of human resources, through the interconnection of education with the labor market and the promotion of continuous professional learning, is particularly important and both professional specialization and the certification of . In addition, he said, it is essential to promote a human-centered business model, which is based on quantitative and qualitative investment in professional staffing, as well as the stability of the staffing of jobs.

In his greeting, the President of the AD Board of Directors, Dimitris Kittenis, referred to the extremely great importance that the AD attaches to its cooperation with the Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) which have an essential role to play since they contribute to the promotion of issues, such as the diagnosis of the training needs of the human resources of businesses, the design and organization of appropriate training programs offered through the various projects of the HRD, as well as their effective implementation which contributes decisively to the HRD's effort to achieve its goals regarding the development of the human resources of Cyprus.

As Mr. Kittenis also mentioned, for 2023, a total of 166 Multi-Business Training Programs – Vital and 2,533 Multi-Business Training Programs – Ordinary have been approved, while the next submission of training programs by the KEKs, which must be completed by October 15, 2023, will be based on the new Plans and will concern the programs that will be implemented from January 1, 2024.

During during the meeting, presentations were made on the Action Plan of Cyprus for the European Year of Skills, on the study “Forecasts of labor force demand and supply in the Cypriot economy 2022-2032”, on two studies evaluating the effects of participation in the Multi-Business Training Programs and on the operation of the System of Professional Qualifications of the Human Rights Council.
