In 70% of 2019 the tourist arrivals in the first quarter

The number of tourist arrivals in Cyprus in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 70% of 2019 arrivals, according to data announced by the Statistical Service.

In particular, tourist arrivals in March 2022 amounted to 128,840 compared to 8,811 recorded in March 2021 and 55,342 arrivals recorded in March 2020.

For the period January – March 2022, tourist arrivals amounted to 244,705 compared to 17,747 in the corresponding period of 2021, 246,556 in the period January – March 2020, and 357,475 in the period January – March 2019.

Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for March as they accounted for 34.8% (44,829) of total arrivals. Following are the arrivals from Greece with a share of 9.9% (12,810), Israel with a share of 8.6% (11,122), Germany with a share of 8.2% (10,592) and Poland with a share of 7.6% (9,805) ).
The purpose of travel in March 2022 was for a percentage of 71.9% of tourists vacation, for 16.3% a visit to friends or relatives and for a percentage of 11.8% business. Respectively, for March 2021, 25.2% visited Cyprus for holidays, 35.2% for visiting friends or relatives and 39.4% for business reasons.

High demand

The strong demand for travel recorded in Europe is favorable for the prospects of Cypriot tourism.
